Nikos Stavroulakis's work covers an extraordinary range of techniques and materials: oils, watercolour, ink, woodcuts, canvas, paper, parchment. All his work, however is characterized by his delight in form, both man-made and natural. Seen through Stavroulakis's eyes, form takes on a sense of magic which is deeply rooted in tradition and myth as well as in the abiding awe which mankind has ever felt toward the power of nature. His jewel-like small oil paintings, as seen here, are delicate celebrations of the human spirit.

Nikos Stavroulakis studied Byzantine and Islamic Art and Archaeology in Great Britain and the United States. While following an academic career he has pursued a career as a painter and illustrator, and since his first one-man show with New Forms Gallery, Athens in 1962, he has participated in exhibitions all over the world.

He has published several books, the most recent a new cookery book on Easter Cretan Cooking. (Talos Press Athens, 2003).

Jill Yakas Gallery first exhibited Stavroulakis's work in a one-man show in 1991, followed by a second one-man show with the gallery in 1994. He also showed his work in A British Gallery in Greece in 1998, a show organized by Jill Yakas as part of the prestigious Britain and Greece Festival held in Athens, and opened by the British Ambassador HE Sir Michael Llewellwyn Smith. Nikos Stavroulakis's work is in collections worldwide.
